Why git is better than Xhttp://whygitisbetterthanx.com/ WhyGitIsBetterThanX.com prompted me to take more than a superficial look at git (Version Control System), and I'm very impressed. I think I'm a convert, forever destined to look down on other VCS' with a slight air of disgust.
I'm afraid that "fanboyism, bandwagonism and koolaid-thirst" all appear to be there in force. Whilst the features it promotes as being in gits favour are likely all true, it fails completely in providing a balanced view of git as a VCS.

I've been getting into git recently and it is very powerful. The biggest thing I really hate about SVN is that when you do a "find" or a "grep -r" on a big source tree you get all the stupid SVN metafiles. With git it's easier to avoid that. Also with git you don't have to ask anyone's permission to create a branch and commit. So when a project is hosted in git, you just get the source code and start doing changes and commits like always.
One of the things that I found very hard starting on git is the unintuitive behaviour of just about every single tool. They have this concept of the "index" which is not really an index, it is a staging area. To me an "index" is something that just automatically keeps itself up to date and makes queries more efficient. Once you get past the weirdness git is hugely powerful.
The only other wishlist I have for git is that you could do a shallow clone (i.e. clone enough of a repository to get started, then automagically use the original source to get more as required, if you ever do need deep history).
